Buckingham allegedly broke into a vacant home on Kilauea Avenue. While police were clearing the home, they came to a locked door. Officers broke the door open, and Buckingham sliced an officers arm, according to police. Two officers fired their weapons. Buckingham's parents have sued Hawaii County, alleging that police did not anounce themselves before entering the room that Buckingham was in.
