Waiki was wanted for shooting and killing Ofc. Bronson Kaliloa at a traffic stop. Waiki was on the run for three days. Police tracked Waiki to South Point, where officers set up a checkpoint at South Point Road and Kamaoa Road. While inspecting an SUV, Waiki shot at officers from under a blanket, striking one of the officers. Police shot and killed Waiki.
