Sykap was allegedly driving a stolen vehicle linked to other crimes. Officers pursued him from Kawaikui Beach Park to the intersection of Kalakaua Avenue and Philip Street, where officers blocked the vehicle after it drove into oncoming traffic. Police say the vehicle rammed two police cars and crashed through a chainlink fence when officers fired multiple shots, before crashing into a canal. Four other individuals — three of them teens — were involved.
